29 Years, 6 Months, 22 Days

Today my Husband put on this uniform for the last time.
After 29 years, 6 months and 22 days, he is retiring from active duty service.

We've been married 31 years, have moved 16 times, lived in four locations in three foreign countries and in 5 states.  In so many ways it went so fast!  I am finding it hard to believe it is over, and I'm all teary-eyed just writing this.
We've reached an end, and are standing at a beginning.
Hubby has a civilian job in San Antonio now and we'll be learning a whole new way of life.
It is kinda of scary-- but I know we'll be okay!

After all, San Antonio has some really great quilt shops!

Next time we talk, I'll be in Texas trying to find some time to stitch and a place to do the stitching!
I'll be looking for a place to live while hubs starts his new job.
See you in a couple weeks!

Happy Stitching!

Congratulations!!! We've got roughly 2 years left before Scott retires. How great to "retire" where you have super quilt shops. :D

The collars on these new fangled uniforms simply refuse to lay nicely! I attempt to make Steve's right every morning and still it has a mind of its own.

At the risk of being repetitive - thank your husband AND you for your family's service to our country. My late husband was retired law enforcement (not the same, I know). I work in Washington state near Joint Base Lewis-McChord and I'm used to seeing folks in uniform all the time. They are the most courteous people on the planet! I NEVER have to open a door.

Congratulations to you and your husband on his incredible service to our country. Enjoy this new chapter in your journey through life.

My husband retired from the Air Force after 25 years and would enjoy shaking your hubby's hand.

San Antonio is my hometown - I know you'll enjoy living there.

Good luck!

HOOAH! We made it to 31 years 1 month, and are in San Antonio also. There are 2 very active quilt guilds here, Greater SA Quilt guild meets 2nd Saturdays at 9:30am. Alamo Heritage Quilt Guild meets 2nd Thursday at 6:45pm. There are about 3 more guilds but don't have their info right now - UUMC, Modern Quilt Guild, and one more. You might be here in time for the annual April Shop Hop where you can get a lot more info on local quilt happenings. WELCOME!

Sending my thanks to both of you for your years of service. I can only imagine the huge change taking place after so many years, but I'm thrilled for the exciting, new adventures that lie ahead! San Antonio is growing like crazy. Hope you find the perfect home with lots of room to spread out to sew and in close proximity to a great quilt shop!

Exciting to see you change directions at this point in your life and your husband's life. My parents did the same type of thing at this same stage. My dad retired from the police force and they moved 2000 miles away after being married 32 years. It worked for them, and it will work for you. Excited to see what is ahead for you.

Congratulations on your DH's retirement! We do appreciate his (and your) service to our country and hope you will enjoy San Antonio. I've been there a few times, but never to any quilt shops. Good luck with your house hunting!

Good luck in your new adventure. It will be a bit of an adjustment - but then so has much of your married life right? I was looking at a young soldier the other day thinking (beside how young kids are now-a-days hehehe) how lucky they are not to have to sew all those patches on their uniforms, just Velcro them on. Enjoy your new life.
